Born and raised in West Salem, WI, I was the second in a family of six children. Graduating from Luther High School in Onalaska, WI, I continued training for ministry at Northwestern College in Watertown, WI. During my training for our pastoral ministry at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, WI, I served one year as a tutor at Martin Luther College and Academy in New Ulm, MN. I also served a vicar year under Rev. Raymond Wiechmann in Seminole, FL. Graduating from our Seminary, my first call was to serve Our Savior Lutheran, a mission congregation in Birmingham, AL, where we served seven years.
Accepting Good Shepherd Lutheran’s call to serve here in Sioux Falls in 1983, my wife and I have raised our family of four daughters in our wonderful city while serving the Lord at our church, school and now our early childhood center. Our family has grown to include four sons-in-law (all of whom, like our daughters, are trained teachers serving in a WELS elementary school or area Lutheran high school) as well as twelve grandchildren scattered around our nation in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Florida. We obviously enjoy the times we can gather with our children and grandchildren, who are special gifts from God.
In addition to our family, I enjoy all types of sports, with bowling, softball and golf being the ones in which I can currently participate. Appreciating opportunities to get together with friends, my wife and I also enjoy attending musicals, Canaries’ games and activities in which our members are participating. Above all, I enjoy sharing God’s truth with souls who need to hear what God has done to give us eternal life through his Son, Jesus Christ.
