Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another– and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

–Hebrews 10:25

Church Council
The church council is a group of elected representatives of the congregation. They implement resolutions of the congregation and carry out assignments as directed by the congregation. They consult together concerning the spiritual and physical well-being of the congregation, giving due attention to the work of the Lord in the church at large. The 12 members of the church council are elected to three-year terms in a staggered rotation with no member serving more than 2 consecutive terms. Elected at the October annual meeting of the congregation, leaders assume their office in January. Following are a list of the various offices/positions of the church council: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Elders, Financial Secretary, Chairman of the Education Committee, Chairman of the Evangelism Committee, Chairman of the Stewardship/Fellowship Committee. The council meets once a month.

Church Elders
Elders serve the church by assisting our Pastors in monitoring church attendance and making visits to new members and members needing encouragement. The 3 elders assist in organizing our worship service and are responsible for seeing that our church remains doctrinally sound in all of our teachings.

Church Trustees
The 2 trustees are responsible for the church and school grounds and buildings. Members are welcomed and encouraged to offer assistance on various projects around the church, school, and early childhood center.

Education Committee
The Education Committee is a group of 7. They are responsible for formulating policies of sound Christian education, implement them on the congregational, school, early childhood center, and family level, and engage in any other activities involving the Christian education of the congregation.

Evangelism Committee
This group of individuals plans a variety of evangelism/outreach events throughout the year. We offer programs and events attempting to reach out to the community through the children and families of our neighborhoods. Our most popular annual events include Easter For Kids, Trunk-or-Treat, and Christmas For Kids.

Stewardship/Fellowship Committee
The Stewardship/Fellowship Committee plans events throughout the year to foster fellowship within Good Shepherd Lutheran’s congregation. Events range from small group bible studies to our annual church picnic.

Women Serving Christ
All ladies of Good Shepherd are part of this group and are welcomed and invited to join us each month (September through May) for an hour and a half of fellowship. We open with a devotion for spiritual growth, followed by a short business meeting, and then have some type of fun fellowship activity. The ladies have planted flower pots, made tie-blankets for the areas children’s shelters, gotten together for a dessert night, visit the elderly members for devotion and carol singing, and put together care packages for our Great Plains High School and college students. Events are posted in the monthly church newsletter.

Serving Circles
For events, such as funerals, teacher/pastor conferences, Lenten services or fellowship dinners, ladies of Good Shepherd are asked to offer assistance in serving meals. We have compiled a list of six Serving Circles with the intention of offering everyone the opportunity to serve while not overburdening anyone with the expectation they will always volunteer. All the women of the congregation are included on one of the circles. This system serves us well and the list is updated as women are received into membership. Co-chairs of each circle will contact circle members when it its their turn to serve.

Lutheran Women’s Mission Society (LWMS)
This organization of for women of all our WELS congregations. We meet for area rallies during the fall and spring. There is also a national rally each summer in a different location. LWMS gives women information and offers opportunities for them to support our work, especially in regards to the mission work our Lord has enabled us to carry out at home and abroad. Events are advertised in the church newsletter.

Good Shepherd Christ-Teens
Our youth have the opportunity to meet together in various times throughout the year. Their goal is to grow closer to Christ and to our fellow members. Some years they have been able to travel to regional or national WELS Youth Rallies. They also enjoy fun and fellowship with one another doing fun activities such as bowling, camping, game mights, snow tubing, movies, and so much more. Activities are posted in the church newsletter.

Golden Oldies
This group of “Golden Members” gathers for fun and fellowship. The group meets once a month at the church for a devotion and games and has other outings and gatherings periodically. The Good Shepherd Lutheran Choir provides a service to our Lord and congregation by enhancing our worship through songs of praise allowing us to sing the good news of Jesus Christ. Choir provides an opportunity for us to serve our Lord using mucial tallents God has given us. Choir typically sings once a month. All members are encouraged to join. There are no “tryouts” and ability to read music is not required. We also encourage members to volunteer to help accompany the choir on piano or organ, either full-time or as a substitute if you are able. Please see our volunteer opportunities page for more information or call 371-0047 to reach the choir director.
